The newsletter is back

======================

There are so many things going on in IT, that I think it is useful to bring back the newsletter.  It will appear in your email every other Monday morning.

If you have any suggested topics, please reply.

Please do not reply to receive IT support, use the options listed below.

Vacations of IT staff

=====================

Curtis is out this week.  As always, the recommended way to get IT support is through the following:

= email: support@anest.ufl.edu

= phone: 494-8203

Windows updates

===============

As you may know, Windows XP service pack 3 (SP3) was released a few weeks ago.  We are evaluating it and preparing to automatically roll this out in the department.  So far we have not encountered issues with it.  It probably is safe to accept this update on your computer at home, but please do not install it at work, as manually applying updates and system installs is against departmental policy.

Shared disk space

=================

The M: drive is a shared, backed up, HIPAA compliant space.  You are not allowed to store any data containing PHI on local hard drives.  Please contact IT support to arrange data storage.

If you have a directory on M: and someone else needs access, we will need approval from the primary user of that directory.  We are looking at formalizing this, as it is sometimes not clear who that is.
