SPAM, SPAM, AND MORE SPAM

We cannot avoid it. Spam will always be sent to us. There is however something you can do to keep your inbox relatively clean. We mark spam messages with {Spam?} in the subject header. This marking is not perfect and we tweak the system every day. If you receive those messages in your INBOX, please follow the these instructions to filter it to a folder: http://www.anest.ufl.edu/groupwise/tip9.html  (make sure the rule uses |-> begins with).

You can then look over that folder once a week or so in case we have mismarked a message. After checking they can be deleted.
Try not to open a spam message. Many of them have ways to figure out if you have opened a spam message. Never reply to spam messages. That just gets you more spam. Also if an unsubscribe option is offered, only use it when it is from a service where you have an account (yahoo, paypal, ebay, etc). If you do not have an account, do not use the unsubscribe option.

GOOGLE MAPS

Google has released a map feature in beta (which with Google could last years). The URL is http://maps.google.com. Zoom in, then click on the image and drag to move in the map. You can also use links (in an email for example) to jump to a location on the map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1600%20SW%20archer%20road%2C%20gainesville%20FL&ll=29.640076%2C-82.343494&spn=0.007462%2C0.014594

It also combines the google search engine to do a "Local Search" of businesses and other local info. Here are all the Gainesville Sushi places:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=sushi&sll=29.640076%2C-82.343494&sspn=0.119385%2C0.233502

Driving directions are also provided.

GATORLINK LOGINS

A lot of services at UF are now using Gatorlink logins. Everybody in our department has (or can easily get) a Gatorlink login. In our department we already use it for some web services and for the computers in the conference rooms. It is also used at the MyUFL (http://my.ufl.edu site, Peoplesoft) that many of you are familiar with. If you don't know your gatorlink login, go here: http://gatorlink.ufl.edu/

If you have forgotten your password, you can call 392-HELP to have it reset (Mon-Thu 7:30am-10pm, Fri 7:30am-5pm, Sun 6pm-10pm). Anesthesiology IT support cannot reset gatorlink passwords.
