Groupwise Tips
Question: Yesterday you told me to delete unwanted messages.
Well I guess I got carried away and deleted a very important e-mail
which I really need today. How can I pull a message out of the
garbage truck?
Answer: By default (until changed) deleted messages are
placed into your Trash folder and remain there by default for 7
days. After seven days these messages are automatically removed from
your Trash folder, ground up and become a useless pile of ones and
zeros. Backup of the e-mail system is performed nightly to be used
in case of a major system disaster. Though not impossible to recover
individual lost messages it requires a full restore of the entire
post office which is a time consuming proposition and is something
not often preformed.
Messages existing in the Trash can be recovered by right clicking on
message icon to the left of the message and selecting Undelete. This
process will return the message to the folder from which it was
originally deleted. Alternately, the message can be dragged and
dropped onto a folder. Right click on a Trash folder message icon.
Drag the icon to the left and drop into any available folder. This
removes the message from the Trash and it becomes associated with
the folder into which it was dropped.
The entire Trash container can be manually emptied at any time by
clicking on the client's menu bar item Edit and selecting Empty
trash. Multiple messages can be selected for deletion (or
undeleting) by holding down the <Ctrl> key while selecting multiple
messages and then selecting delete (or undelete) as appropriate.
