Groupwise Tips

Question: Groupwise initially works properly but later in the afternoon starts having problems. How do I fix?

Answer: It is hard to resolve unspecified "problems". However, one solution which resolves a large number of situations is to log out, turn off the computer (no power) and wait several minutes. Next, turn the system on, login and restart the program. Often after being on for a while running multiple programs the computer may become confused switching program code in and out of memory. By turning the computer off and then back on both hardware and software is reinitialized. It is unbelievable the number of situations that are resolved in this simple manner.

The machines in the resident's library use a program called Deepfreeze to upon power up initialize and reconfigure these systems to a set fixed state independant of any changes which might have occurred during previous user sessions. Most problems involving these computers can be fixed with a simple power off, wait, and then back on.
