Promotion and Tenure
The University of Florida’s guidelines for attaining promotion and tenure are on the web at http://www.aa.ufl.edu/Handbook/employment.html. Tenure-track faculty members are expected to apply for promotion and tenure at the end of their sixth year of employment, with tenure being granted by the end of the seventh year. For promotion to associate professor, the candidate must have twenty original papers in which he is the first or last author and exhibit some evidence of external funding. He must have satisfactory teaching evaluations, satisfactory performance of service assignments, and have some evidence of excellence in clinical care.
Promotion from clinical assistant professor to associate professor would normally be considered in the 7th or 8th year and would depend on significant teaching effort, excellence in clinical care and some participation in clinical research.
