Operating Room Equipment
Review of Equipment: On an annual basis, the Director, in conjunction with Dr. David Paulus, reviews the adequacy of anesthesia and resuscitative equipment and requests that the administration approve the purchase of appropriate additional equipment.
Maintenance and Repair: All electronic equipment is completely checked, aligned, and calibrated semiannually by the biomedical staff of Clinical Engineering in accordance with service manuals. In addition, Clinical Engineering inspects electronic operating room equipment on a monthly basis.
On a daily basis, the biomedical engineering technician checks the defibrillator for functioning and the patient monitors for the condition of the lead power cable. All anesthesia machines and ventilators used in the operating suite, burn unit operating room, obstetric suites, MRI suite, x-ray and block rooms are completely serviced four times each year by Ohmeda. Anesthetic vaporizers are serviced by Clinical Engineering. The biomedical staff of Clinical Engineering must be notified of any need for repair or calibration of the anesthesia equipment and is responsible for logs of all repairs and maintenance.
