The Department of Anesthesiology is fully committed to providing the best possible resident education and opportunities for faculty development in a clinically exciting and challenging environment. The specialty of anesthesiology in an academic setting is unique as the size and scope of the department is essentially service driven. We attempt to provide service to the patients that our colleagues bring to the University of Florida with a proper mix of subspecialists. We train and attract those who are the most outstanding teachers in a particular area, and also, seek faculty who have obtained research skills. We have a faculty with a diversity of research interests, some basic, some clinical, some oriented to physiology, others to pharmacology or engineering, and still others to health care system research.
The department has a homepage available at http://www.anest.ufl.edu. All department computers are set up with this as the default homepage when entering Netscape or Internet Explorer. Information related to the Department of Anesthesiology may be accessed from the drop down menu entitled "Anesthesiology Site List." Many sites related to doing business at Shands and UF may be selected from the drop down menu entitled "Shands and UF Quicklinks."
The department also has a departmental database applications site at https://needle.anest.ufl.edu/department. At this site, faculty can view personnel and alumni addresses, housestaff assignment schedules, rotation dates, lecture schedules, teaching/call schedules, and leave calendars.
This information and policies manual will help you successfully navigate through the many different areas of the College of Medicine, Shands Hospital at UF, and the University of Florida. Careful review will help you understand our expectations, as well as make you aware of the tools available to help you meet your goals.
