FACET Present projects:

Currently, five main lines of research are being pursued within our FACET group:

1.- Perioperative Clinical Information Systems The goal of this research is to develop complete and consistent clinical information for improved perioperative patient care as well as facilitate administrative and financial management.

2.- Workstations for Intraoperative Management Decreasing the workload of the clinician is the emphasis by providing assistance in a number of areas. Systems for patient monitoring and the automated detection of critical incidents, innovative display technologies, on-line reference text, and automated and cost-efficient recordkeeping systems are being studied.

3.- Anesthesia Delivery and Life-support Systems Alternative designs to deliver anesthesia safely, and more efficiently than current systems and applicable for anesthesia delivery to patients with severe pulmonary properties are being studied in this area.

4.- Simulation and Part-task Trainers The goal is to develop realistic patient simulators and training devices for all levels of medical education, and equipment evaluation.

5.- Education Introduce patient simulators and part-task trainers for the education of physicians, residents, medical students, allied health care providers, and professionals in the medical product industries. The Anesthesia Course for Engineering and Marketing personnel, the Gainesville Anesthesia Course for Sales Representatives, Continuing Medical Education in anesthesia risk management, and Basic Skills Training for new residents in Anesthesiology are but a few examples of the 10 educational programs currently offered at the University of Florida Medical Simulation Center. A large number of projects are being pursued within these five major lines of research.
