About Making Backups

When we talk about software and all the wonderful things computers can do, we need to point out an extremely important procedure: backup your work. At this moment data is still predominantly stored on magnetic strips, platens, or tape. These surfaces can be damaged very easily causing all the data to be lost! You need make sure that extra copies of your work are available in order to safeguard yourself against this. One economical solution is to make an extra copy onto a floppy disk or onto a tape drive. Write-Once CD-Rom drives offer a secure (albeit more expensive) method. Find a backup mechanism that works for you. One workable guide is the answer to the question: "How much data do I care to lose when my hard disk breaks?" (Note that it reads "when", not "if".)
