There are no commercial systems to provide for postoperative recordkeeping for anesthesiologists. With relatively little economic motivation, anesthesiologists are likely not to see significant innovation in this area for some time. However, the impetus to reduce overall costs introduced by capitated care will drive the development of automated outcome-capturing systems, which will provide anesthesiologists with far better information on the true outcome of their cases, enabling significantly improved research into improved patient care.
