Critical Care Medicine Fellowship:
Emergency Medicine Residency Graduates

The Departments of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology, Division of Critical Care Medicine at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida (SUF) are seeking EM residency-trained or board certified emergency physicians as applicants for our joint Critical Care-Emergency Medicine Fellowship at SUF in Gainesville. Our Critical Care Medicine program, centered in the academic flagship hospital of the Shands HealthCare Network, emphasizes active fellow involvement and management in all areas of surgical critical care, including our Level 1 Trauma Center. Successful applicants will work closely with a multidisciplinary faculty, fellows, and residents. Qualified applicants will be board eligible or certified in emergency medicine; preferred applicants will have a demonstrated academic career interest. This 2-year program includes training in surgical, burn, cardiac, hyperbaric critical care, research, EMS and emergency medicine. SUF Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine provides city and county EMS direction, interhospital hospital transport including the ShandsCair aero-medical service, and provides medical support teams for NASA shuttle launches and landings.

The program is coordinated by Doctors Kevin Ferguson and A. Joseph Layon; the latter is the Chief of Surgical Critical Care and Division Chief of Critical Care Medicine at SUF.
